Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam

Universidad Regional Amazonica Ikiam is a public institution of higher education. Established in 2014, it is situated in the province of Napo, within the Ecuadorian Amazon region.

“Ikiam” means “jungle” in the indigenous Shuar language. It stands out as the sole university in Ecuador with a unique feature - the Colonso Chalupas Ecological Reserve with more than 93.000 ha, serving as a living laboratory for research dedicated to biodiversity conservation.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, Ikiam's academic programs promote the advancement of knowledge, science, and high-quality education oriented toward the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

As of 2024, Ikiam offers 5 master's and 10 undergraduate programs, including one in collaboration with Yachay Tech, and five graduate programs. Ikiam's students are recognized for their academic and scientific accomplishments, making significant contributions on a global scale.
