Samarkand State University

The Samarkand state university (SamSU) is a leading nationally, regionally and internally recognized academic, research and cultural university. The university which keeps in good balance century old traditions with modern innovations known for its top diverse programs in education, science and art. 

Since from its organization Samarkand state university has prepared several thousand higher educated specialists for different sectors of country of Uzbekistan as well as for neighbor countries from Central Asia. Currently there are about 44 master programs and 49 doctorate programs functioning at Samarkand State University. At the moment we have about 640 master students study at master programs and 134 PhD students carry out their research works at University. 

The university forged a great number of links with higher educational and scientific establishments abroad. Staff members and advanced MS and PhD students are involved in projects of DAAD, SCOPES, CNRS, JICA, KOICA and other organizations. Most MS and PhD candidates have a chance to do their research in the framework of the project financed by this projects. Leading staff from international partner universities are involved in supervisorial work for our candidates. Each MS and PhD candidate has to have one local and one international supervisor.

Since 1996, the university has been involved in 6 TEMPUS, 21 Erasmus Mundus and 12 Erasmus+ projects.

The staff from Samarkand state university have been involved as coordinators or principal investigators among the main team.

It is planned to develop a mobility programs for master and PhD candidates with leading universities in Europe, Asia and America. In the framework on this mobility programs all the activities and credits which students earn within mobility are recognized.

Mobility is acknowledged for the career advancement of postgraduates.

The university offer a great opportunity to the international applicant to visit, study and finish their research in different MS and PhD programs.

Each international applicant can start His or Her stay with upgrading linguistics skills attending free of charge Uzbek or Russian classes for 8-10 months.  Several programs which are organized in English or other leading foreign languages attract attention of international applicants.

International students mostly choose a programs related to the History of Central Asia, History of Great Silk Route, Ecology and Environmental science, Biodiversity, Art and Social Work, Mathematics and Computer science, Oriental languages. University have several museums, excebitions and reach fundamental library. The department of oriental manuscripts in the library keeps a sources dated back to the 12-14 century, written in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Uzbek languages. 

Along with main subject knowledge, MS and PhD students develop cultural, economic and social skills in the fields of education management.
