Eskisehir Technical University

About
Eskisehir Technical University (ESTU) was established by separating some faculties from Anadolu University in 2018. Although it is like a new university by the date of establishment, it has a long history of more than 50 years. There is an international airport run by the university at the campus, with 6 faculties, 3 vocational schools, and 3 institutes serving research and education facilities. More than 700 hundred academic staff are available for research and education. In addition, there are around 12 thousand active students: more than 300 international students and around 2500 graduate students. The vision of the university is to be the pioneer of change and transformation by creating value. Some of the university policies related to research are (i) developing and implementing an interactive, output and impact-oriented research management ecosystem that includes all components of the research process and (ii) conducting research with a focus on business and international cooperation and producing value-creating research outputs. Eskisehir Technical University has one of the wealthiest research facilities in Turkey and opens these facilities to internal and external users. The main research aim of Eskisehir Technical University is activating research elements and producing value-creating research outputs through developing output and impact-oriented collaboration networks and increasing the number and budget of external projects catalyzed by internal project supports. The research budget of the university is more than 2 million euros/year. Internal projects cover all the research stakeholders from high school/undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate students to alumni and retired academic staff. In addition, more than 20 spinoff companies are owned by university academics. They share certain percentage of their income to the university to use the university facilities to carry out their research at the university facilities. The following topics are the leading research subjects at ESTU: Railway Systems, Aircraft Components, Ceramic and Composites, Solid State Physics, Particle and Nuclear Physics, Energy Storage and Hydrogen and Fuel Cells. With the great efforts spent over the last couple of years to increase external projects' number and budget, ESTU became one of the most successful universities for TUBITAK research projects (like 2209 undergraduate student projects, 2244 Industrial Ph.D. programs and 1001 main research projects) among Turkish universities. Eskisehir Technical University is also a partner of four of the 1004 coded centers of excellence support TUBİTAK projects. Research efforts are also directed towards international projects. On the other hand, as it is a new university, ESTU is not shown in the world university rankings since the rankings are generally based on the last 5 to 7 years documentations. However, Eskisehir Technical University is ranked to be among the first 20 universities on the Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Ranking Index among Turkish Universities. The qualitative and quantitative research outputs are increasing year by year.
