About VinUniversity

VinUniversity was founded by Vingroup Joint Stock Company (Vingroup JSC) as a private, not-for-profit university for the purpose of fostering and developing talents for the future.

From an idea that was conceived in early 2016 to start a university that would be a world-class university and provide breakthrough education in Vietnam, to the first major milestone in October 2020, when the first batch of about 200 students arrived at the Hanoi, Vietnam campus to begin their university life, the journey of VinUniversity has been one of extreme diligence, attention to uncompromising quality standards in facilities and infrastructure, faculty, student quality, and the processes and systems to support student learning, cutting edge research and community impact.

Along the way, and a key success factor in this journey, are the support and deep strategic partnerships between VinUniversity (VinUni for short) and Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. These universities have become close advisors and crucial enablers in establishing the three colleges at Vinuni: the College of Business and Management, the College of Engineering and Computer science, and the College of Health Sciences. VinUniversity is the first private, not-for-profit Vietnamese university established based on international standards. The university integrates the models of excellent international universities with the unique cultural and economic characteristics of Vietnam, with the ambitious and inspirational goal of becoming a “University of Excellence, Developing Talents for the Future”.

In a courageous move, we decided to undergo an audit for QS Ratings even before our first students had begun their VinUni life. As an affirmation of our commitment to establishing the right infrastructure to enable and support high-quality student learning, we received 5 STARS Rating in Learning Environment, Academic Development and Inclusiveness, and 4 STARS in Teaching. Our aspiration is to receive 5 STAR Ratings across all dimensions in our next audit. 

Currently, VinUni offers undergraduate degrees in eight programs across the three colleges:

Partnerships:

The Cornell-VinUniversity partnership lays the foundations to position VinUniversity as a world-class teaching and research university in accordance with QS 5-star rating standards. Cornell University faculty support VinUniversity to validate and assure the quality of the curriculum, build its faculty and leadership teams, and develop admission processes that follow the best practices in the world. 

VinUniversity students will be offered opportunities to study at Cornell and experience life at this vibrant university.

 The University of Pennsylvania is working with VinUniversity and with the Vinmec Hospital system to build a curriculum and training program for doctors, resident doctors, and nurses to meet the highest international standards. UPenn is also working with Vinmec hospitals to develop and train instructors, improve the quality of healthcare and services, expand specific services, and to build a world-class model of Health Science education at VinUniversity.

Other partnerships and collaborations of note are VinBrain and VinAI, the National Children’s Hospital, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea. 

These valuable relationships will help us to establish our faculty and leadership teams, to validate and assure the quality of the curriculum, to guide the University on a path of international accreditation, and offer VinUni students opportunities to intern and study with our partners in Vietnam and abroad.
