Founded in 1928, National Taiwan University (NTU) is the most prominent and comprehensive research university in Taiwan, with a history tracing back to Taiwan Hospital established in 1895. NTU Libraries

The University Library System is comprised of 9 major branch libraries, including the Main Library, Social Sciences Library, Law Library, Medical Library, Gallery of NTU History, Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Resource Center, and more. With 2.4 million volumes, NTU's Main Library is the most comprehensive library nationwide. It has a large multimedia center and 24-hour self-study rooms, providing an ideal space for students to prepare for class or do research.

 

Sports Facilities

NTU’s Sports Center provides a wide variety of indoor sports facilities, including a weight training room, martial arts and dance rooms, indoor courts for badminton, table tennis, basketball, and a heated swimming pool. As for outdoor sports facilities, the university has a track and field, an Olympic swimming pool, and sports grounds for basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, baseball, handball, etc. All students are welcome to borrow sports equipment and to try out for student sports clubs and university varsity teams.

 

Health Center

Taiwan's affordable universal health care also extends to NTU’s on-campus Health Center, providing discounts to NTU students for health-related services. The university offers diagnostic services by experienced family medicine (general practice) doctor and houses experts from other medical fields to provide high quality first-line medical services, including pharmacists, radiologists, nutritionists, and physical therapists.

Conveniently located on-campus or within a 5-15 minute walk, all student dormitories are guaranteed for all international, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau students. Rooms are available in either single, twin or quad variations depending on the study program, and can easily be applied for during your application to NTU. Student Counseling Center

Besides the on-campus Health Center, NTU supports students via the Student Counseling Center to assist with any mental health and psychological well-being issues they might encounter. The center employs professional psychologists and social workers who offer counseling in both Chinese and English. In addition, the center includes the Office of Disability Support Services to provide support for students with disabilities.

 

Student Clubs

With over 400 student clubs to choose from, you will certainly meet both local Taiwanese and international students who share your same interests. The student clubs are divided into 8 categories: physical activities/training, community service, social development, entertainment, academics, arts, autonomy (clubs affiliated with colleges/departments), and composite (clubs under various categories). Taiwan Hostfamily Program

If you are an international student wanting to gain insight into local Taiwanese life, learning more about the politics, history, economy, and other aspects of Taiwan’s society, then you might consider participating in the Taiwan Hostfamily Program. This program aims to foster a “Known Taiwan, Experience Taiwan” environment for international students by matching them with local host families. Not only will it enhance language learning, but will also promote understanding of different cultural backgrounds.

Degree Programs

NTU offers more than 280 degree programs, including over 90 double degree programs, at the bachelor’s, master's, and Ph.D. levels, with 800+ courses taught in English each academic year. Furthermore, massive open online courses (MOOCs) are readily accessible, with 51 courses on Coursera and over 2,700 lectures and 180 courses on NTU OpenCourseWare.

 

We also proudly present our latest Master Program in Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science (Global ATGS) and Master’s Program in Biodiversity. Both are English-taught interdisciplinary master programs that emphasize hands-on training and site visits. Please visit the corresponding links for more information.

 

In addition, numerous scholarship opportunities are available to all students, including international students, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Combined with affordable tuition fees and living costs, it makes NTU and Taiwan an excellent choice for degree students.
