The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) and focuses on degree programs which have a connection to the fashion industry. This includes subjects such as art, business, design, mass communication and technology. 


The vast majority of available majors at FIT are offered by the School of Art and Design, and the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology. In addition to the 27 majors offered across these two schools, the School of Graduate Studies offers a further seven, while undergraduate degrees in art history, museum professions, film and media are offered by the School of Liberal Arts.


Over 7,500 full-time students are enrolled at FIT, alongside over 2,000 part-time students. There are four dormitories which offer student accommodation, three of which are on campus. The campus is also home to a Barnes & Noble bookstore, a Starbucks, a food court, dining hall and a deli. The institute also has its own museum - the Museum at FIT - which houses collections of clothing, textiles and accessories. Its permanent collection includes more than 50,000 items from the 18th century to the modern day.
