Bachelor Courses:

Business Management and Engineering

From an early stage in their career, engineers need to mana¬ge finances and managers need to deal with technologies. Business Management and Engineering at bbw University of Applied Sciences combines these two fields. Advanced manufacturing systems are the fourth industrial revolution. The German government identified Industry 4.0 as one of the top “future projects”. It is part of the High-Tech-Strategy 2030. Industry 4.0 revolutionises manufacturing and production and opens the door to an age of “smart industry” in which people, devices, objects, and systems are combined to form dynamic, self-organising networks of production. It connects innovative embedded system production technologies with smart produc¬tion processes to pave the way to a new industrial age, which will radically transform industry and production value chains and business models in tomorrowʼs smart factories. An increase of manufacturing productivity by up to 50 % – using half the amount of current required resources, is expected. Germanyʼs renewable energy sector is among the most inno¬vative and successful one‘s worldwide. The energy transition (Energiewende) towards sustainable energy is leading to a decentralised renewable energy system and to more energy efficiency. Wind and water, the heat and light of the sun, the carbohydrates in plants, and the warmth in the earth – all are energy sources that can supply our energy needs in a sustainable way. A variety of methods are used to convert these renewable resources into electricity. Each comes with its own unique set of technologies, benefits, and challenges. Also storage and distribution of energy is getting more and more important.

Management of Business Digitization

The international management of business digitalization can be thought of as having a “door opener” effect between companies active in the international supply and demand markets. On the one hand, it can establish direct contact between companies in those two markets while at the same time playing an “agent” or “moderatorʼs” role for those products and services of high-tech companies that underpin the global economy. Successfully implementing such products and services into corporate structures requires an unique set of skills that are expected to be in high demand for the foreseeable future. The “Management of Business Digitalization” Bachelor programme course has therefore been specifically designed to meet this demand for qualified professionals both regionally and internati¬onally. The courseʼs main goal is to train the professionals able to increase the efficiency of companies while supporting the corporate development of new, globally marketable products and (IT) services. With its “Management of Business Digitalization” Bachelor programme, bbw University of Applied Sciences now offers both Berlin-based SMEs and young people an educational and advancement opportunity that combines a new, in-demand academic qualification, creative possibilities, and the flexibility of being able to advance individual career prospects within the social environment of local companies. This is achieved thanks to the programmeʼs focus on strengthening the ability of gradu¬ates to work scientifically while enabling them to conduct such scientific research independently.
