Nigde Omer Halisdemir University

Our university was established under the name of Niğde University in accordance with the Annex 22 of Law No. 3837 published in the Official Gazette dated July 11, 1992 and numbered 21281. Niğde School of Education (1974), Niğde Vocational School (1974), Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (1987) and Aksaray Vocational School (1986) which were affiliated with Selçuk University were merged and transformed into the Faculty of Education. The same law was published. Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, School of Physical Education and Sports, Institute of Social Sciences and Institute of Science were established in Niğde, while Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Ortaköy Vocational School were established in Aksaray. In 1992, Bor Vocational School was affiliated with Selçuk University, and in 1993, Niğde Zübeyde Hanım Health Services Vocational School (1993), Ulukışla Vocational School (1994) and Çamardı Vocational School (1995) were opened in connection with our university. Faculty of Education (1996), School of Physical Education and Sports (1996), Şereflikoçhisar Vocational School (1997) and Faculty of Arts and Sciences (1999) were opened in Aksaray. Niğde Zübeyde Hanım Health Services School (1996), Bor Halil Zöhre Ataman Vocational School (1999) and Turkish Music State Conservatory (2000) were established. All faculties and schools in Aksaray and its districts, together with the primary schools and academic staff of our university, were affiliated with Aksaray University, which was established in 2006. The departments of Çamardı Vocational School (2005) were closed and transferred to Ulukışla Vocational School. Niğde Vocational School was divided into two as Niğde Social Sciences Vocational School and Niğde Technical Sciences Vocational School in 2009, and the School of Foreign Languages was established in 2010. The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was transformed into two separate faculties as the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Architecture in 2010. In addition, the Institute of Educational Sciences (2011), Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies (2011), Faculty of Communication (2011), Faculty of Islamic Sciences (2014), Faculty of Medicine (2015) and Faculty of Fine Arts (2016) were established. While fighting for the treacherous coup attempt targeting the survival of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Nation, the hero and year of Senior Sergeant Ömer Halisdemir, who was martyred, was written in history for future generations, with the 20th anniversary of the Law No. 6745 dated September 7, 2016, the name of our university has successfully become Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, which I have lived in and our name has been added to the 24th century of the Law No. 7033 on July 1, 2017. Institute of Health Sciences (2018), Bor Faculty of Health Sciences (2018), Faculty of Dentistry (2019), School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences were closed and the Faculty of Sports Sciences (2019) was established. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences was separated into the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2024. Again, the Faculty of Computer and Informatics was established in 2024. Our university currently continues its education, training and research and development activities with 16 faculties, 1 college, 1 conservatory, 4 institutes, 6 vocational schools and 16 research and application centers.
Mission: To raise individuals who are researching, questioning, participatory, can think universally, and have ethical and cultural values; To contribute to the development of the country and the region by ensuring the development of science, technology and art, with awareness of respect for the environment. Vision: To be a university which is focused on regional development, specialized in priority areas (which are agriculture-food, energy and nanotechnology), pioneer in serving society, and innovative.
