Savitribai Phule Pune University

Savitribai Phule Pune University is one of the largest Universities in the world with more than six lakh students studying in 52 Post-Graduate Departments and Research Centers, 6 Interdisciplinary Centres, 629 Affiliated Colleges and 232 Recognized Institutions affiliated to the University.The University and its affiliated colleges function within the broad framework of the education policy laid down from time to time by Government of Maharashtra and Government of India. The Maharashtra State Government gives grants and aids to the University and its affiliated colleges mainly for payment of salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized the Savitribai Phule Pune University and most of its affiliated colleges. All development grants are sanctioned by the UGC and other funding agencies such as the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

The undergraduate education is primarily organised through affiliated colleges, in addition to a few programs conducted on the main campus. The conduct of examination and evaluation of the entire undergraduate student population, is centrally administered through the main campus of Pune University. The results are published within 30 days in spite of the tremendous volume of answer sheets that require to be evaluated. The Board of studies actively revises curriculum every three years to keep up with the changes globally. 

University provides a platform, Awishkar to promote and inculcate research culture in students at UG level and Sanctions grants through ASPIRE project grants to faculty working in the colleges. The best projects are further nurtured through the Research Park.
