The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) is located in Moscow.
With two of GITIS campuses and Student theatre located in the historic city centre, famous theatre houses – Bolshoi theatre, Moscow Art theatre, Vakhtangov theatre as well as Tchaikovsky Conservatory – foreign students really become a part of the great Moscow’s art life.
All programs are taught in Russian, but students are offered Russian language courses. For entrance exams, more attention is paid to the talent of foreign applicants and not their skills in Russian. The school is proposing summer and winter master classes and schools in English and Chinese.

• GITIS main building at Maly Kislovsky lane for Acting, Directing, Theatre Studies and Producing faculties
• Taganka campus is for Musical Theatre, Variety Theatre, Puppetry directing and design, Sound engineering and Set Design.
• The campus at Neglinnaya Street is home for the Ballet Master Faculty.
• Student Theatre and the new Educational Theatre Complex.
The Student Theatre as well as the other campus facilities are located in the centre of Moscow in immediate proximity to theatres, museums, and concert halls.

Theatre Foyer Café
Theatre Foyer Café provides a meeting point for students and staff
The Institute Library, which houses 350,000 volumes, has one of the largest collections of theatrical art books in Moscow. In the video library there are recordings and productions from different years, as well as institutional videos made by leading Russians performers and directors.
Extracurricular activities give students the opportunity to meet famous people of art and visit all Moscow theatres, premiers and exhibitions.
Studentsfrom over 40 countries across the world study at GITIS.
All foreign students can live in the GITIS' dormitory, located next to theMoscow metro station.
The cost of living is around 250 US dollars per month. The dormitory hascomfortable rooms, necessary living facilities and Wi-Fi access. Security isprovided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Applicants can apply to GITIS through their personal account on the student/applicant section on GITIS’ website.
Required documents for the university application:
• Application form
• Agreement to use personal data
• Scan of the passport (translated in Russian language and verified by notary)
• High School Diploma or Bachelor degree (translated in Russian language and verified by notary)
• Agreement for the enrolment
• 6 photos (3×4 size)
• Medical certificate
Your academic documents must be translated into Russian and must either be notarized in Russia or certified by the Russian Embassy or consulate in your home country.
All courses at the Institute are taught and assessed in English. No additional fees are charged.
Auditions are required for all students undertaking degrees that involve acting.
International students can receive Russian funding provided by Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Ministry of Education.
More than 80 percent of grads work in the arts sector as actors, directors, theater experts, critics and journalists.
Two percent work as leading actors in Moscow theaters and movies. Some of them continue with graduate and postgraduate studies and then successfully work as professors at universities.
GITIS graduates have won a number of international awards. For example, the performance "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ("As You Like It") by Shakespeare won the Edinburgh International Festival of Stage Arts award on September 2, 2012. The world premiere of the performance took place earlier, at the Royal Shakespeare Theater in the UK on August 10. Four GITIS graduates were in that performance.

JerzyGrotowski, Polish director-reformer, theorist of modern theatre, culturologist.In 1955-1956 He studied at the postgraduate course of the Directing Department.
Anatoly Vasilyev, Soviet and Russiandirector, teacher, creator of the theatre "School of Dramatic Art",based on a creative model: laboratory - school –theatre.He studied at the Directing Department of (Andrei Popov and Maria Knebel course).Since 2004 – a head of the director's course at the HigherNationalSchool of Theatre Arts (ENSATT) in Lyon (France). Laureate of the State Prizeof the Russian Federation (1999); laureate of the award named by K.S.Stanislavsky(1988); laureate of the Fund named by K.S. Stanislavsky "For hiscontribution to the development of theatrical pedagogy" (1995); Chevalierof the Order of Arts and Literature (France, 1989); Commander of the Order ofArts and Literature (France, 2007).

Alexey Kokhanov, the graduate of theMusical Theatre Department, received a special prize "PremioOratorio" competition "Musica Sacra" in Rome in2010).
Maria Tregubova, Vera Martinova andJoshpa Etal artists, the graduates of the Scenography Department (DmitryKrymov's course) won the Golden Trig Award for the creation of the Russianpavilion at the Prague World's Fair of Stage Design and Theatre Architecture(Prague Quadrennial) in 2007.
Vadim Dubrovin , the graduate of theVariety Show Department is the GrandPrix winner of the International competition "Music World" (Italy).
