With some of the best research facilities and analytical tools in the country, USask is the choice of more than 4,300 master’s and PhD students. The university offers more than 80 fields of study for graduate and post-doctoral studies, including three graduate schools of public health, public policy and environment and sustainability.

Solutions to global challenges require the best and brightest minds, and approaches that transcend disciplinary boundaries. For instance, environmental problems require researchers and students from multiple fields of knowledge to better understand and resolve them. At USask, the nexus of expertise from the graduate School of Environment and Sustainability, graduate School of Public Health, Global Institute of Water Security, Global Institute for Food Security, the Toxicology Centre, Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, and many other colleges and research facilities are brought together in an interdisciplinary approach to examining problems of global importance related to topics such as climate change, environmental sustainability, and food and water security.

USask has highly integrated teams of medical, animal, social and environmental scientists working to find solutions at the interface of animal, human and environmental health. Beyond the training of doctors, nurses and veterinarians, the university is home to a broad range of academic programming and world-renowned research facilities such as the International Vaccine Centre (VIDO-InterVac) which holds over 80 U.S. patents for vaccines, six of them world firsts.

Our faculty and graduate students in agriculture, computer science, engineering, genomics, and public policy are working together through the Global Institute of Food Security and the Crop Development Centre to help feed the world through transformative innovations in digital agriculture and transformative plant breeding.

USask faculty and graduate students work shoulder to shoulder to address a wide range of basic and applied research challenges including balancing the protection of the natural environment and the ever- increasing demands for energy and natural resources; carrying out experimental and theoretical investigations of advanced materials; and exploring human-computer interaction, image analysis and nuclear and particle physics. Harnessing the power of world-class facilities in synchrotron sciences, nuclear innovation and cyclotron sciences, scientific insights are translated into ground-breaking practical applications through local, national and international partnerships.

We are engaged in research and graduate student education partnerships worldwide. USask offers more than $16 million in graduate student funding including special scholarships for international students and indigenous students. Our students work alongside top researchers including approximately 130 research chairs (19 of them Canada Research Chairs), two Canada Excellence Research Chairs, one Canada 150 Research Chair, 25 Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada, nine 3M National Teaching Fellows, one Killam Prize holder, and many other acclaimed faculty.

Our warm community welcomes people from around the world and right here at home including growing numbers of Aboriginal and international students. It creates open dialogue, and fresh opportunities for learning inside and outside the classroom.
