Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga is the oldest and best state Islamic higher education institution in Indonesia. This university was established on September 26th, 1951. In 2004, there was an institutional transformation, from the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) to the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga. Located in Yogyakarta, on approximately 87 hectares of land, this university has 8 Faculties, 1 Postgraduate School, with 44 undergraduate programs, 31 Master Programs, and 17 Doctoral Programs.
The vision of the university is to become an excellent university in integrating Islam and science for civilization. The mission includes the development of Islamic studies, and science with Indonesian values such as moderate, inclusive, and brotherhood. The university is also concerned in developing multidisciplinary research that contributes to the world society, and nation with religious insight. The university’s goal is to produce competent, faithful, noble graduates, with social, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills.
Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga began a significant reform to improve the quality of education, including providing excellent service for students with disabilities. Currently, the total students of the university is around 21,000, consisting of domestic and international students. Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga becomes the first state higher education institution with "Excellent" accreditation from the National Accreditation Board-for Higher Education, in which 72% of the study programs in the university are also accredited "Excellent", and 21 of them are internationally accredited.
