National Institute Of Technology, Silchar is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology of India and commences its academic programmes in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College in Assam. In 2002 it was upgraded to the status of National Institute of Technology Silchar and was declared an Institute of National Importance under the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 by the Parliament of India. The institute has been imparting education in the field of science, technology and management at undergraduate and graduate levels. The institute has been consecutively ranked within top hundred in the India Ranking (IR) 2016 and 2017 (Engineering). The institute has robust academic and research infrastructure to carry out technology, science and management education and wants to showcase its infrastructure to a global audience. Since the QS ranking ranks the best universities in the world, the Institute desires to participate in the QS ranking process to attract the best quality students, researchers and faculties in its expertise. The institute desires to leverage its credentials to enter into international collaborations in frontier research areas of science, technology and management. The institute feels that the QS ranking will enable us to attract international projects in the fields of science and technology as well as help our graduating students to reach higher learning centres across the globe.
