Omsk State Technical University – the main technical university of the region – plays an important role in the region’s scientific and educational system. Educational and research activities align with key development objectives of main economy sectors.
By 2018 17 690 students study at the university, including 9 201 Bachelor students, 2 296 Master students, and 240 postgraduate students. More than 3000 international students chose to study at OmSTU, which is the highest number among all Omsk higher education institutions. OmSTU constitutes a big community where each student can find himself/herself in science, art, public life, sports, and business. There’re more than 840 staff members, including scientists, full professors, and Candidates of Sciences.
By 2020, OmSTU offers Bachelor degree programs in 60 fields of study, Master degree programs in 35 fields of study, and Doctoral programs in 22 fields of study. Our university trains specialists not only for Omsk region, but also for other regions in Siberia and Far East. International activity is continuously developing. By 2020 OmSTU has 76 active agreements with various educational institutions and companies in India, China, Greece, Germany, Italy, etc.
The university has always focused on the quality of education, innovations in teaching, and development of fruitful relations with businesses and industrial world via experimental research and technology transfer. Research has always been connected with didactics and is a priority of the university, which helped OmSTU achieve top results at an international level. Research helps form partnerships and unions with regional and international industrial systems.
It is important to know the world in which you are going to work, thus the university focuses on the needs of production in its educational process. Research helps find new ways for development and meet ever growing need of industrial world and state management systems in innovations. The challenge which is being met today is developing first of all at the European level and following the Bologna process.
Our university is an initiator and a participant of Omsk regional scientific and research association which consists of 10 leading regional universities and scientific institutions. The goal of this association is to implement joint educational, scientific, and infrastructural projects in the frame of two key fields: high technology components and systems and petrochemistry/ oil refinery. Apart from education and research, the university is involved in the following activities:
1. In youth policy: management of volunteer movements and student teams;
2. In culture and tourism: training specialists for culture and tourism industry, promotion of brands in in cultural and tourist territories and at events;
3. Intercultural and transnational dialog through festivals.
Key university’s activities:
1. Development of multi-stage higher and continuing education;
2. Development of innovative ecosystem in the university;
3. Recruitment of highly qualifies specialists for improvement of staff and scientific potential;
4. Organization of research groups and projects;
5. Development of integration system for new staff members, including foreigners;
6. Inclusion of university’s publications into international data bases such as Scopus and Web of Science; promotion of publication activity among staff;
7. Development of local communities, urban and regional environment, creation of favorable conditions for youth, development of new professional orientation and motivational formats, promotion of involvement of youth into solving regional problems;
8. Creation of public area in the university’s campus for dialog between local community, business and government.
The university is included into such rankings as Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, RUR, RAEX and Interfax.
The university has extensive experience in cooperation with universities of Russia, former USSR countries and Europe in the frame of research and educational projects.
