City, University of London offers a wide range of taught and research postgraduate degrees, with every member of City’s postgraduate community benefiting from outstanding academic staff, comprehensive student support and tailored careers guidance.

Courses cover the following academic areas: Business, Arts, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Sciences and Law. 

A postgraduate degree, whether taught or research provides students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their chosen subject and explore particular areas of interest, while developing valuable transferable skills, including analytical thinking and research and presentation techniques.

One of City’s greatest strengths is their links to business and industry and expanding these links is central to their future strategy. City offers skills-focused degrees that embed employability within the curriculum and was recently ranked 6th in London for graduate prospects (Complete University Guide 2022). 

Alongside employability, City are focused on setting up new interdisciplinary research centres that will produce solutions to some of the biggest challenges that society faces. In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, 52.4% of City’s research was classed as ‘internationally excellent’ and 23.3% was classed as ‘world-leading’. Forty percent of City’s research staff were rated as ‘excellent’. This performance puts City within the top 50 UK institutions for research.

In keeping with City’s close links with business and the professions, many of City’s postgraduate degrees are offered on a part-time and flexible basis, allowing students to manage their study around employment commitments. City offers over 150 taught postgraduate degrees, each developed by academic staff who are experts in their fields and who possess an in-depth understanding of the graduate employment marketplace.

City believes that to produce world-leading research, students need world-class equipment and facilities. City has invested £150 million in responsive learning environments, new technologies, library and study spaces and its staff over the past ten years.

Highlights for students include:
•    Airbus cockpit simulator, micro turbines and formula car simulator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics
•    State-of-the-art 3D OCT camera used in City’s own opticians, City Sight, which is open to the public
•    A fully equipped recording studio, composition studio, performance space and rehearsal rooms in the Department of Music
•    A brand new building for The City Law School, featuring a dedicated law library and study spaces, a mock courtroom, and an in-house legal clinic.
 
As part of the University of London, students also get access to a wide network of library, social and sports facilities.

City’s main campus is just a short tube or bus ride into central London, with its diverse range of theatres, world leading galleries and museums and famous attractions. If all that hustle and bustle gets a little too much, London is home to over 3,000 parks and open areas for you to relax in. Or you can hop on a train and visit any number of the UK’s fantastic cities and towns.

Applications for the majority of postgraduate courses are made directly to City through the relevant course webpage. 

Most courses do not have a fixed application deadline and operate on a rolling admission basis. Early applications are recommended, as competition for places is strong and applications close when the course is full, as offers are made upon receipt of application.

Entry requirements
You will be considered for most postgraduate courses with a good Chinese bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. For some degrees, professional qualifications and employment experience may be required, but also may be considered alongside or instead of an undergraduate degree.

Ties to both UK and international businesses provide networking and career opportunities for postgraduate students. City has also signed up to The Concordat, which is an agreement to improve the employment and support for research staff.
