The University of Potsdam, founded in 1991, is a strong research university and one of the best young universities in Germany and Europe located in close vicinity of Berlin. The University has strong European and global partnerships regarding research cooperation and student exchange.

Students at the postgraduate level can apply for a broad range of more than 50 Master and 25 doctoral programs. The University of Potsdam currently offers 26 international MA programs, 18 of which are taught in English. You can earn your doctoral degree from the University of Potsdam in a wide range of fields and research areas, either as part of a structured doctoral program or in an individual doctorate. There are many interdisciplinary working groups at Potsdam and opportunities to do research at one of the many partnering research institutions nearby.   

For international PhD students and scientists, the University’s Welcome Center offers comprehensive information, advice and support in all practical matters including visa and housing issues. When studying at Potsdam, both Master and doctoral students can benefit from a dense network of university service centers, such as UP’s Career Service and the start-up founder service that help graduates to successfully enter the job market or start their own businesses. The Potsdam Graduate School is UP’s umbrella organization for all doctoral students and postdocs. It provides counseling and professional career development for young academics and networks all doctoral and postdoctoral students in the region.
