Founded in 1949, a few years after the end of the Second World War, Kochi University is located in the Japanese city of Kōchi. It consists of the following academic departments:


- Faculty of Humanities and Economics
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Science
- Medical School
- Faculty of Agriculture and Marine Science
- Faculty of Regional Collaboration
- Graduate School of Kuroshio Science Doctoral Course
- Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences
- The United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences Ehime University

The city of Kōchi is in southern Japan and is home to approximately 332,000 people. The city is most famous for katsuo tataki, a local dish consisting of seared and seasoned tuna. Nearly half of the city was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War, although Kōchi castle - originally built in the 1600s - continues to stand today and is worth a visit. Every August, the city hosts the Yosakoi festival, featuring thousands of dancers and performances of both traditional and modern songs.
