Pavol Josef Safarik University was established in 1959 in the city of Košice in eastern Slovakia. Second in size only to Bratislava, Košice was the European Capital of Culture in 2013 and is home to many museums, galleries and theatres. The university is home to more then 7000 students and is divided into five faculties:

Science
Law
Public Administration
Arts
Named after the 19th century philologist, poet and historian Pavel Jozef Šafárik, the university also has a botanical garden, ICT center, Institute of Physical Education and Sport, as well as an extensive university library.
